In May 2016, 3D Global Sports Canada recruited 11 of the best basketball players from Canadian Universities (U-Sports) and toured China, representing Canada vs. team USA (D-League and NCAA all-stars), Lithuania first-league all-stars, and the China National B Team. 3D [Determination, Dedication, Discipline], a Canadian homegrown program that has created a reputable niche, bringing Canadian basketball talent to international competition and competing at the highest levels. With over 3 years competing internationally, the 3D Canada program continues to push boundaries and is excited to announce its upcoming tournament, the prestigious 39th annual William Jones Cup in Taiwan.

Taipei City, Taiwan -- The 39th William Jones Cup

3D Global Sports, have accepted their invitation to represent Canada, and compete, in one of the most prestigious and historical basketball tournaments, the William Jones Cup. The William Jones Cup is a FIBA certified international basketball tournament held in Taipei City since 1977. The tournament is named in honor of basketball promoter Renato William Jones, one of the founders of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

This tournament is an officially sanctioned FIBA Cup in Asia, which produces EuroBasket and National statistics and player profiles. The Williams Jones was once part of the regular schedule for the Canada National Team in 2004 where they placed 2nd! This year, the 3D program will take the lead in representing Canada and work to represent the country to the best of their abilities. In recent years, the William Jones Cup has high profile participants, such as former NBA players Al Thorton and Andray Blatche (Represented Phillipines), Hamad Haddadi (Representing Iran) and coaches Sam Mitchell (USA Coach, previous Head Coach of the NBA Minnesota Timberwolves, and Toronto Raptors)

  • National Team of Chinese Taipei A
  • National Team of Chinese Taipei B
  • 3D Global Sports Canada National Men’s Team.

Competition Venue

A new stadium has been built in Taipei City, to hold the William Jones Cup, in which the 3D men’s team will have the privilege and opportunity to be the first Canadian team to step on the floor. Basketball Stadium of Heping Elementary School, Taipei City. Capacity: 7,500.

Major television networks throughout Asia, the Middle-East and Ocenia will cover the entire duration of the 39th William Jones Cup tournament. Some of these networks include:

Team

3D Canada will be taking a 16-17 full staff and roster, which will consist of players, coaches, videographers, trainers and also one referee for international development purposes. The Head Coach of the 3D Canada program, for the 39th Williams Jones Cup, will be announced shortly. The full team program and roster will further be officially introduced internationally via our 3D Canada website, network and Eurobasket basketball database.
