39th William Jones Cup MVP

Diego Kapelan: Captain Canuck

For 39 years, the William Jones Cup, an international basketball tournament, has been held in Taipei, Taiwan. The gathering of national teams across the globe have all contributed to making this tournament, truly special and historic. The 3D Global Sports program not only represented the nation of Canada, but also made history by winning the 39th William Jones Cup, which was previously won only once by Canada in 1996 with the National Team.

In four decades of history, 39 men have earned the MVP of the William Jones Cup. Among this rare and unrivaled class is one of our very own and now crowned 2017 3D Global Sports MVP: Diego Kapelan. Diego joins the ranks of recent and former William Jones Cup MVP's such as Hamad Haddadi (Former NBA player - Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns) and Al Thornton (Former NBA player - Los Angeles Clippers and Washington Wizards).

Diego's experience with 3D winning the 39th William Jones Cup and earning MVP:

"My experience with 3D was amazing. The 3D program worked really hard to accommodate and meet all the players needs. With the William Jones Cup being so demanding with 9 games in 9 days and also a mini training camp, it was a grind but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Winning the William Jones Cup is something that no one can ever take away from us and the individual awards that I got, MVP and all tournament team, wouldn't have happened if the team wasn't put together the way it was. Much credit to 3D for bringing on Kyle Julius as the head coach. Kyle and Teddy Tochev put their minds together to put together the pieces that would best work together and the end result was the gold medal. Extremely thankful for the opportunity and I look forward to seeing what the future holds."

Diego's 7 years of professional European experience was clearly evident as he lead team Canada to a WJC championship while averaging 18 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.1 steals and shooting an incredible 53.3% from the 3 point line.

Head Coach Kyle Julius of 3D Global Sports Canada Championship team quotes:

"Having the opportunity to coach Diego Kapelan was special. I've wanted to coach him for some time and we finally came together with 3D for the 39th William Jones Cup. Diego is a tremendous teammate with very high level skills. He shoots the ball with precision and has the ability to play multiple positions. He competes and he fights. He is a true pro and it was an honor to work with him. Diego was a huge piece to our championship."

3D Global Sports Canada would like to thank Diego Kapelan for his determination, discipline, and dedication. The MVP of the 39th William Jones Cup is a worthy award and Diego has now been marked in history as the 39th MVP and champion.
